I’ve been rigging a character in my spare time and I’d like to share it with the animation community. This is still a beta release so please let me know if you find any issues.
Alex’s body has been rigged with Advanced Skeleton and you will find heaps of information and training videos in the Advanced Skeleton home page. The face was custom rigged and I tried to keep it simple and powerful. Lets see what comes out of it. I’ve built a synoptic – or character UI if you will – to make the control selection easier.
This is the link to download the character resources:
Alex is compatible with Maya 2012 and newer versions.
How to install the synoptic?
- copy the ‘prefs’ folder and paste at ‘Documents\maya\(maya version)\’
- copy the ‘scripts’ folder and paste at ‘Documents\maya\(maya version)\’
- open Maya and look for the Alex shelf
Don’t forget it is best practice to reference the rig in the scene. The synoptic supports multiple rigs in the scene.
What is to come?
I intend to create a female version of Alex – she’ll be called Alex :) – and also create some stuff to add character variation – like beard, moustache, hair styles and new blend shapes for ears, nose, chin, etc.
I hope you enjoy it, and don’t forget to give me your feedback about how I can improve it.
